One student from every Advisory is chosen to represent that class on the Student Council. Any student may run for an officer position, with elections being held near the start of each school year. Karen Pfiester is the Student Council's faculty sponsor.
Students interested in newspaper or yearbook journalism must apply to be a part of these classes. Only a limited number of applications are chosen each year. Sara Hess is the yearbook sponsor. Students and parents are encouraged to send in photos for inclusion in the yearbook so that many students' interests can be represented.

Sixth-eighth graders may participate in academic UIL events representing areas of study such as math, science, history, reading, music, art appreciation, and other subjects. Regional meets are part of the University Interscholastic League program, which prepares students for state-wide competition in their high-school years. North Lamar has had state winners in the past, and several students have earned academic scholarships based on their contest results. Stone UIL sponsors typically meet with their student participants before or after school for several weeks prior to competition. Academic meets vary from year to year, but are usually held in late fall.
